Stopped here after completing the "Rugged Maniac" at Wild Mountain this past weekend. (We stopped here because it literally seemed like one of the only options in Taylor Falls.) My friends and I pulled up a stool (the seating/atmosphere is almost cafeteria-like) and were greeted promptly by the waitress. She was attentive, friendly, and personable. The food at the Chisago House is extremely reasonable in price and descent in quality. (I would suggest their short stacks because they are as addictive as crack/cigarettes/alcohol/whatever comparison works for this review). By no means would I say you will be "blown away" by this place but I think it definitely deserves more than one star. Count on this place for cheap food, descent service, and an overall quaint dining experience.

The burger is just normal. I dont feel it was special or different to other places serving burgers. The ambience is actually nice.

This place has good food, good service and an all around great place to grab a bite to eat. On Sunday they have all you can eat breakfast buffet for under 10 bucks! Super yummy corned beef hash and delicious hashbrowns. It isn't fine dining but an all around solid place!

Poor service even though no one was there (E.g. didn't bring enough napkins and silverware, refill drinks, or ask if we wanted a booster/highchair, brought check when we still had more than half of our dinner left). Not good food.

Hate to say it, but one star is being generous. We were there after 2:00 in the afternoon - hardly any customers and still it took over an hour I ordered a burger medium - I don't think it could've been cooked any more without being charred. My son ordered pancaked and eggs. He forgot to tell them how he wanted the eggs - rather than come back and ask, the waitress decided for him (and made the wrong choice). The portions were small, unappetizing in appearance and really disappointing in taste. We also watched customers come in after us get served before us. In one word: awful!

I have been stopping here since I was a little kid. Many trips for breakfast with my mom and grandfather. They have good food and have been there for a long time. Family friendly and a good place for kids overall.

Food was very good and service was fast and friendly. We stopped in after a long, fun day at Wild Mountain. I had the roast beef special. Good flavor and filled me up. My wife had an omelette and pancakes. She loved both. I stole one of her cakes and it was very good. Son had the pizza burger and loved it. Daughter had the chicken wrap and the veggies inside were fresh and tasty and the fresh fruit was very sweet. I had the kraut soup and was blown away by the flavor. My son sampled it and loved it so much he ordered and finished his own bowl (he is 7). We all shared some rings as an app and they were hot and tasty. The prices are very low. It's a great place in the area for tasty food at a good price. And no, I won't pay $4 for a hotdog at wild mountain. Our dinners averaged $6 each. They also have a cute candy shop.

Salad bar was horrible... Slimy carrots and iceberg lettuce... No olive oil anywhere... Hmmm. I do not recommend this place, especially in a time where food can be so much better. There are resources and salad items that can be placed on a salad bar with little effort or cost to the restaurant. The 1950's were a long time ago.

What a disappointment. This is the first place you see when coming into Taylors Falls on Highway 8, and that's probably the reason they are still in business. We parked up the street and walked past several other places that were busy, including an outdoor grill on the beautiful autumn Saturday. We should have stopped -- we would have been better off. You can get breakfast, lunch or dinner all day here. My companion ordered two eggs, sausage patties and toast. The sausage was so greasy it looked as if grease had been poured over the sausage like syrup. That stayed with him all day. I had the french dip, and I am sure I have never had worse. It was a plain sesame roll with sliced roast beef that had been placed on the grill. It was so dry and overdone that even dipping it in jus could not save it. To make it worse, neither the meat nor the jus had any real flavor. The service was mediocre -- the waitress was nice but inattentive. Seating is almost cafeteria-style -- a huge room full of tables and chairs. Decor is a bit rough around the edges, and don't look too closely or you might find something you don't want to see. After walking around a bit, it's apparent that Taylors Falls and St. Croix Falls across the river each have a few decent establishments. Next time, I'll be trying one of them.

Seems like its the only option in town - been there twice, and next time I think i am just going to go hungry and make my way back into mpls . .. The food was marginal and the service was meh - I would just keep driving .. .or try something across the river.

while visiting Minneapolis, did a day trip up in taylor falls. did the riverboat ride and of course needed a lunch place. Looked at the blue place down the street and they wanted $10 for a limited menu selection. Thus we chose Chisago House. Hubby got the Gracie, a turkey Reuben, which he enjoyed and thought good. Menu didn't list fries so he requested them and they didn't charge him extra. I got the basic grilled cheese and fries. I had no complaint with these basic food choices. They were as good as one could expect from a common diner. The waitress was unfriendly and somewhat impatient Menu listed one refill on soda or tea. We had to request this refill and she seemed surprised of the request Over all, I don't regret eating here. I would even probably return if I ever happened to be in taylor falls, and in need of a quick lunch, which will never happen. Remember this is basic diner food with a fairly good menu selection. Seemed family owned and locally patronized. There were two large groups during our visit.
